![]() The 76mm is a proven, all aspect workhorse and is the better choice for a weapon system when deck space is limited such as on a Frigate. There's a reason that Navy's around the world never used the 57mm as a ground attack weapon from ships since it's inception in the mid 60s. ![]() But sure, you try to get OTH or behind terrain capability out of the 57mm. I mean, besides the fact that TLAM isn't capable of such a strike mission. It seems like MLRS systems are either 10 miles or less, or 20+miles, so seems like you’re really stretching for that.but again, land attack isn’t in the intended use for the FFG(X) so it’s kind of pointless to bring it up. Most rocket trucks that we might face of Russian/soviet origin seem to have shorter range than the mk110 does. Cheaper than replacing dead sailors, paying disability for decades, and repairing a ship. ![]()
